Travel Guide: 3 Days in Paris
"A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life.” – Thomas Jefferson
When someone tells you about Paris you're usually left with romantic visions of couples holding hands while walking down cobblestone streets, endless wine and cheese and centuries-old buildings with statues blanketed in gold. When I visited almost ten years ago, I was taken back by just how beautiful the city actually is. Paris is dream within it's own city walls; protected, preserved and pristine.
We stayed at Le Pigalle in the hip trendy Pigalle quarter of the 9th arrondissement. Someone there told me Pigalle is the Brooklyn of Paris and I have to agree. Our street was lined with funky restaurants and bars. Paris is a fashion capital but staying in Pigalle was like being in a fashion show. Le Pigalle itself is an amazing restaurant during the day and popular lounge at night.
With only three full days in Paris, I was eager to eat, drink and see as much as possible therefore, I met up and consulted with my French bestie, Charlotte to get the French girl's guide to Paris. Charlotte is my spirit animal. Her hair and smile is as beautiful as her personality.
The Hardware Société in Montmartre for breakfast - This place is actually Australian but serves French inspired meals. I ordered the breakfast bavarois on the healthier side but it was both filling and delicious.
Château De Versailles for the day - There's simply nothing I can say about this place to prepare you for the amount of opulence and splendor you will experience. Take a full day and purchase the 18 euro Passport to experience the palace and gardens. It is worth every single penny.
Dinner cruise down the Seine - There are many options for this but after doing some research before our trip, Bateaux Parisiens was the highest rated option with a great price at 99 euro for a three course meal with live music, wine and champagne. Take the 9pm cruise so all the buildings are lit up and the Eiffel tower sparkles at the start of each hour.
Les Catacombs - The underworld of Paris where over six million people are buried. I know this sounds very scary but it's actually quiet beautiful. In a nutshell, someone took a chance on a forgotten mass grave by curating the bones and turning it into a exhibit so those who died could be remembered. I highly suggest taking the audio tour for the full story.
Cimetière du Père Lachaise - Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde and Chopin are all buried here which is why it's a tourist hotspot but this cemetery is also eerily gorgeous and peaceful. While we were at Jim Morrison's grave, a man sat down next to us and starting playing a slow Doors song on his guitar which heightened the feels.
Stroll down Le Marais - One of the most beautiful streets in Paris lined with a mix of designer and local shops. Almost This area is also a very artsy with wall art and galleries.
Honorable mentions (from my trip eight years ago!) - Every historical monument you can possibly see because they each have a unique and rich history such at Notre-Dame and The Louvre.
